The humble appearance of these confections belies their impressive flavor. One bite of these praline-like pecan treats was all it took to figure out what prompted Grandma to copy down the recipe:
The short ingredient list is another point in their favor. My teen and I made these just as written. Beat 1 egg white until soft peaks form. Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, 3/4 cup brown sugar and 3 cups chopped pecans. Stir to coat the nuts thoroughly. Drop teaspoonfuls of the mixture on a parchment-lined baking sheet. I'd note that they really didn't spread out while baking so it's okay to place them about half an inch apart or even slightly less than that. Bake at 250 degrees for 30 minutes. Turn off the oven and keep them in the oven for at least an additional half an hour.
Everyone here would give this recipe two thumbs up. I'm thinking they'd be a great addition to a plate of Christmas cookies, so we could be making them again rather soon.
